laser stretch marks removal

Stretch marks happen when the skin is stretched rapidly due to pregnancy, weight gain or weight loss. For some, the marks would be light and not noticeable – but for the unfortunate ones, stretch mark scars can be significantly discolored, starting as reddish or purplish and eventually fading into white streaks. The marks appear in the dermis, or the middle layer, of the skin.

There are some preventive measures that can be taken when it comes to stretch marks. Water helps a lot, as it hydrates the skin, making it fell soft and moisturized. Having a healthy diet with foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals that can help the skin, and will also help you prevent stretch marks. Avoiding caffeine rich drinks is also one way of stretch marks prevention, and if you are already hooked on coffee or tea, you can balance this off by drinking lots of water. However, for those who already have stretch marks due to the reasons I’ve mentioned before, there are effect ways to remove them. One such way would be laser stretch mark removal.

Laser surgery for stretch marks is a procedure that uses an excimer laser (similar to laser used in corrective eye surgery) to remove stretch marks. This procedure is FDA approved and started gaining popularity from 2002 onward.

The ideal candidates for laser stretch mark removal would really be almost everyone. Since a laser is used to remove the stretch marks, the procedure is non-evasive and would only require a few hours for the patient to be submitted to the excimer laser treatment.

During laser stretch marks removal, the layers of skin around the stretch mark are removed using an excimer laser. The treated area heals quickly, and the new layers of skin will form quickly. The healing process after laser surgery for stretch marks would depend on how extensive the treatment was. There might be some blistering that would happen, but this too will heal in a few days. For some, the healing process will take weeks, and during this time, there would be some redness and tenderness in the area treated.

The result of laser stretch mark surgery will also be dependent on the level of condition of the stretch marks, as well as the age of the patient. For those with extensive stretch mark problems, the treatment may take longer and may require as many as 10 treatments before the laser is able to erase stretch marks completely.

Laser stretch mark removal is better than other cosmetic surgeries though, as it does not require for the patient to be operated on. The excimer laser is controlled and has very low risk of injury.

As always with every form of laser treatment, the most important thing would be to ensure that the cosmetic dermatologist who would be treating you has complete knowledge in performing laser surgery for stretch marks. This is the main key in order for you to have very low risk of injury.

Preparation is also important. Make sure that you get to know all the information that you need when it comes to having laser stretch mark removal procedure done. Educate yourself and ensure that all your questions are answered before you submit yourself to this form of stretch marks treatment.
